Summary

In his classic book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Patrick Lencioni laid out a groundbreaking approach for tackling the perilous group behaviors that destroy teamwork。 Here he turns his focus to the individual, revealing the three indispensable virtues of an ideal team player。

In The Ideal Team Player, Lencioni tells the story of Jeff Shanley, a leader desperate to save his uncle's company by restoring its cultural commitment to teamwork。 Jeff must crack the code on the virtues that real team players possess, and then build a culture of hiring and development around those virtues。

Beyond the fable, Lencioni presents a practical framework and actionable tools for identifying, hiring, and developing ideal team players。 Whether you're a leader trying to create a culture around teamwork, a staffing professional looking to hire real team players, or a team player wanting to improve yourself, this book will prove to be as useful as it is compelling。

I had to read this for work。 Fable format。 First half was bearable, last half repetitive。

Bazen tekrarlara düşse de, hikaye tarzıyla anlatması ve en sonda yaklaşımını anlatması güzel olmuş。 Kolay okunan, birkaç saatte bitirilebilecek bir kitap。

As usual, Lencioni business fables have you flying through the pages, welcoming yourself to the fictional business settings commonly found around the Bay Area and the dilemmas of C-Suite people that can only be solved by the theme of this particular book。 Though I normally abominate business fables because of the fabrication used to deliver business acumen, Lencioni's world is insightful and effective。 Though I think this one fell short。This is because there was a little bit too much idealism he As usual, Lencioni business fables have you flying through the pages, welcoming yourself to the fictional business settings commonly found around the Bay Area and the dilemmas of C-Suite people that can only be solved by the theme of this particular book。 Though I normally abominate business fables because of the fabrication used to deliver business acumen, Lencioni's world is insightful and effective。 Though I think this one fell short。This is because there was a little bit too much idealism here, along with forcing his virtues of ideal players always being Hungry, Smart, and Humble。 If they aren't, they have work to do。For key players, down to the lowest rung of the corporate。 Virtues are unequivocally Hungry, Smart, Humble。 Not exactly virtuous in my opinion。If you have this book already, I'd just skip to page 170, past the business fable, and go from there and see if you like it。 。。。more

Very helpful if you are managing people, hiring people or just working with people!

Great practical information。

This book is good - read this since it was suggested by the company I work for。 The opening story is a little corny but it is all extremely applicable。

Another MUST read

Overly simplistic and underdeveloped。 Be humble, hungry and smart。 Got it。 But what about curious? Creative? Emotionally intelligent? As a manager, I want more than nose-to-the-grindstone types。 Challenge me! Challenge my ideas! There’s so much more to being a team player than this book would have you believe。

Humility。 No one much likes acquiring it, but Lencioni makes a strong (and sensible) case for it being the essential foundation for each member of a team。 Do I have the courage to learn it, and live it? Or will I choose self-sufficiency, and forgo the achievements, and excellence, that only teams can reach?

This is a great professional development book that uses alagory to teach

It is a good book but some of the themes seem very basic。 Although the story revolves around basic principles and themes it can still give readers great insight on how to become a team player through those principles and themes。 It is sort of a guide/how to/story example all in one。

Profound guide into being a great teammate!Super helpful。 Ready to get to work develop into the ideal team player。 Simple core values to live by in work and in life。

I liked the principles presented in the book, but The Fable part was a snooze fest 😴

My supervisor asked our leadership team to read this book in preparation for a two-day planning summit we have coming up soon。 When describing the book, she laid out the three essential virtues as being "Humble, Hungry, and Smart," so I had an idea of what I was getting into with this book。 I wasn't expecting the actual material to come so late in the book。 This is a case of an author having a great idea, but once it is written down, he didn't have quite enough material to count as a real book。 My supervisor asked our leadership team to read this book in preparation for a two-day planning summit we have coming up soon。 When describing the book, she laid out the three essential virtues as being "Humble, Hungry, and Smart," so I had an idea of what I was getting into with this book。 I wasn't expecting the actual material to come so late in the book。 This is a case of an author having a great idea, but once it is written down, he didn't have quite enough material to count as a real book。 Therefore, Lencioni uses most of the book to tell a workplace fable。 After the fable is completed, he dives into his true content, walking through the applications, while using the story we just read as a case study to better explain his principles。 There is good material here, but I enjoyed Lencioni's book, "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable," more than this one。 Final rating = 3。5 stars 。。。more

This came to be on my reading list as part of the of the office book club。 I’m not a fan of self help books but the fable part of this one drew me in speedily。 It was almost like hearing office gossip as an outsider and making judgements - what a guilty pleasure! Loved the H, H, S ideology。 Will be diving into the self and team assessments next to put it into practice。

Easy to read

This is by far the simplest and yet profoundly relevant business book I have ever read。

Great book to use to create a culture in your organization!

Jay

Easy read about principles for building ‘non-jackass’ culture in your workplace。 The first half is devoted to ‘The Fable’, a bite-sized story about a theoretical construction company and the second to some useful practical advice for hiring questions and development, though fairly brief。 Hardest part is applying it to a workforce that doesn’t share the same values as it is reliant on building the right culture from the top。

A good companion book to The Five Dysfunctions of a Team。 If hiring and retaining an ideal team player is important to your organization, then this book is for you。 Lencioni presents the concept that there are 3 traits of an Ideal Team Player - Humble, Hungry and (People) Smart。 I especially love his list of interview questions at the end for discovering these traits during candidate interviews。

I love Lencioni's content—super practical and relevant。 But the fables just drive me crazy。 I find them so hard to take seriously。 I get that they illustrate his points。 The character motivations, though。。。! Podia escolher imensas frases a reter deste livro, mas deixo as seguintes como as do TOP 3 a reter: “The five behavioral manifestations of teamwork: trust, conflict, commitment, accountability and results”, “Scare people with sincerity” and "Humility isn't thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less。”Como o título indica, é um livro que ajuda a adoptar e a analisar os comportamentos de um verdadeiro elemento de equipa。 Podia escolher imensas frases a reter deste livro, mas deixo as seguintes como as do TOP 3 a reter: “The five behavioral manifestations of teamwork: trust, conflict, commitment, accountability and results”, “Scare people with sincerity” and "Humility isn't thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less。”Como o título indica, é um livro que ajuda a adoptar e a analisar os comportamentos de um verdadeiro elemento de equipa。 。。。more
